Then one of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” They paid him thirty pieces of silver, 16 and from that time on he looked for an opportunity to hand him over. In Matthew 26:14–16, Judas Iscariot goes to the chief priests and offers to betray Jesus for “ thirty pieces of silver .”  From that moment, he seeks an opportunity to hand Him over.   brief yet pivotal scene marks the transition from mounting tension to the final unfolding of Christ’s Passion.  The sum Judas receives recalls Zechariah 11:12–13, where the rejected shepherd is paid thirty shekels—the price of a slave (cf. Ex. 21:32).  In that prophetic context, the money is thrown into the temple, an eerie foreshadowing of Judas’ later remorse and the priests' refusal to return the “ blood money ” to the treasury (Matt. 27:5–7).
